How do we wash Rapunzel’s hair?

With a family of girls all of which have long or thick hair, sometimes both you could imagine the amount of shampoo and conditioner we go through (especially when they do it themselves), it gets very expensive.

I had been considering making my own for a little while but I was sceptical, would they really clean our hair? Would it make our hair dry?

I set about searching for recipes, after much searching I found one that has only 2 ingredients plus whatever essential oils you decide to use.

Shampoo – 1 tbsp of baking soda, 1 cup of water 10 drops lavender 10 drops tea tree. Conditioner – 1 tbsp ACV 1 cup of water 10 drops lavender and 10 of tea tree.

I chose lavender and tea tree essential oils, I’m happy to report that this blend has not only cleaned our hair beautifully but left it soft.

To store the shampoo and conditioner I purchased bottles from the Wasteless Pantry, they are 1L bottles so I can easily make up a big batch.

Love these bottles, but more importantly I love how easy it is to make and the money it saves me.

Pikelets how we love thee

My girls love pikelets and they are especially handy to make for dance canteen duties, I had previously been making them without adding  essential oils to flavour them however on the weekend I decided to be brave and try them with added flavours.

Ingredients

1 cup self raising flour (I used white, next time I am going to try gluten free)

½ cup dextrose

¾ cup milk (I used full cream)

1 egg

3 drops Orange essential oil

Melted butter or similar to grease pan

Butter or margarine to serve

Sift flour and dextrose together into a bowl with a pinch of salt (I used Pink Himalayan Salt

Whisk milk, egg and essential oil together, then add to dry ingredients, whisking until smooth

Heat a non-stick frypan over medium heat. Grease pan. Drop level tablespoons of mixture into the pan and cook for half a minute or until bubbles appear on the surface

Turn over and cook the other side for 1 minute until golden

Allow to cool and serve with butter.

I have to say they were a huge hit with my girls and the others that sampled them. If you would like to know more about the essential oils I use and recommend please submit the contact form.

Flavoured water

I have never been a fan of flavoured water, usually favouring the likes of Coke, Pepsi etc (I know not exactly healthy for me or my wallet).

Since discovering essential oils in the heat of Summer, I started adding them to soda water for a refreshing drink.

So far I have experimented with these combinations

Orange & Lime – love this combo especially after a tiring day

Grapefruit – Ok so I don’t enjoy the fruit but in an oil and added to water its devine

Lemon – WOW!! That is all I am in love with this one

Let me know your favourite combination
